Don't forget to show your red ❤️ white 🤍 and blue 💙 spirit tomorrow as we celebrate Veteran's Day 🇺🇸

Independence Middle School presents Xanadu Jr. on November 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. in the IMS auditorium.
A Greek muse inspires love, laughter and the world's first Roller Disco in this 1980s glitter explosion based on the cult film and Broadway musical. Xanadu JR. is inspired by the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical and the Universal Pictures' cult classic movie that starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Xanadu JR. is a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep audiences in stitches while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift them out of their seats.
Xanadu JR. follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira (Kadence Young, 8th grade), who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California, on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny (Sam Caruso, 8th Grade), to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first Roller Disco. (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny her jealous sisters Melpomene (Scarlett Lewis, 6th grade) and Calliope (Cameron Bauman, 6th grade) take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.
Over 50 cast members in grades 5-8 bring the magical world of Xanadu JR to our stage!

In honor of Veteran's Day, IMS will start the school day on Friday with a very special assembly. Looking forward to seeing the students in their red, white, and blue to commemorate the occasion with some of our local veterans! ❤️🤍💙
The 6th graders presented their Day of the Dead altars they constructed virtually today in Mrs. Corrigan's Spanish class! After learning how Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico on Nov. 1 & 2 and the various items that are commonly placed on “ofrendas” (altars) for remembrance, students used their own research, tech savvy skills, and much creativity to construct their own for a deceased person. A job well done!! 👏👏👏

Hope you've all had a nice weekend! Here's a look at the week ahead from the IMS News Update:

One of our district's most amazing resources is our Outdoor Education Center and Land Lab! Superintendent Ben Hegedish visited the Land Lab today and talked with Bio Society president and vice president, Ashley and Joe, who helped highlight all the reasons why they love the Center & Land Lab. The video also features our fourth graders who visited the Land Lab and learned so much today. #iPride https://youtu.be/jEfn46GJzHc
During lunch periods thru Halloween, we'll be selling raffle tickets to win these amazing candy boxes! Everything inside the box is edible, and proceeds will help give children in need a better holiday. Two lucky winners will be pulled on Halloween! 🎃 👻

It's a Pink-Out for Spirit Week! 💕
