With school closing and the weather warning remaining in effect, we are canceling today's ski club for IMS. We are looking to reschedule with Boston Mills and our transportation office. Once a date is finalized, Mrs. Frate will communicate accordingly. Stay warm, and hope you all enjoy the long weekend!

No school today - Friday, January 19. While forecasted accumulations of snow were known last night, the forecasts actually became more severe with more snow expected. Stay safe, have a great weekend, and go Blue Devils.

The district secured a grant to update security cameras across all buildings. After months of planning, the new safety-focused camera system is in use providing additional safety at all our locations. #DidYouKnowFridays

Stay warm and safe out there! 💙💛

Here we go Brownies, here we go!! 🤎🧡

Eighth-grade Spanish students in Mrs. Corrigan's class were able to incorporate History with Spanish! In honor of MLK Day on Monday, students were given a few different versions of famous MLK quotes to translate and analyze. After learning online the who, what, when, why of each quote's significance and recognizing vocabulary previously learned, students will apply how MLK's legacy can be applied to the world today. Can't wait to read their responses on how they can be difference makers in 2024! #IPride

Hope you're all having a great start to 2024! It's been wonderful having our students and staff back in the building after the winter break 💙💛
We'll be having a Browns spirit wear day tomorrow ahead of this weekend's wild card game, so wear your orange and brown to cheer them on! 🧡🤎

Happy New Year from Independence Local Schools!

Happy Holidays from IMS!!
Staff and students are thoroughly enjoying their last day at school before the winter break. This morning while students participated in an I-Pride Assembly, which featured a 1st trimester culmination WIMS newscast and honored our December students of the month and I-Pride shout out winners, the IMS PTO treated our staff to a wonderful breakfast!
We later had a surprise visit from Santa, and had some amazing PTO volunteers in the lunchroom providing a delicious hot cocoa buffet ☕️
Our 5th graders had a lot of fun presenting historical skits they’ve been working on for their very own Christmas Readers Theatre 🎭
And we’re currently being serenaded by the IHS vocal ensemble, to be followed by the IHS band in a special holiday concert just for our staff and students 🎶
We are grateful to all who have made this wonderful day happen, and look forward to all the things that 2024 will bring! Stay safe and enjoy this winter break with your friends and families 💙💛

Wishing you all a wonderful, safe and healthy holiday season with your friends and families! Check out Mr. Vanek's weekly newsletter for an end of year message to our IMS families, a link to the 1st trimester WIMS crew's wrap-up broadcast, and so much more!

5th graders and their WEB Leaders got in the holiday spirit this morning by making snowflakes to decorate the 5th grade hallway ❄️ Can't wait to see the finished product! 💙💛

Students in Mrs. Koussa's 6th grade social studies classes have connected with and learned about prehistoric times through historical simulations and cave painting 🎨 So creative!

8th grade Spanish I students in Mrs. Corrigan's class have been working on a Christmas in the Spanish Speaking World Project. Today they were able to experience a Cultural Foods Day! Students were able to bring in a dish related to the Christmas season for their given country they have been studying to share with the class. Students were able to try out dishes from Puerto Rico, Colombia, Spain and many others. What a fun and delicious way to start the week! 🇵🇷 🇨🇴 🇪🇸
