Independence Middle School

September 27, 2024 Due to staff illness and injury, we will have to run double routes this afternoon. The high school and middle school students that ride bus 18 will be dismissed at 2:20 p.m. and arrive home about 20 minutes earlier. The high school middle school students that ride bus 7 will be home about 20 - 30 minutes later. The primary school students that ride bus 7 will also be home approximately 30 minutes later this afternoon. Parents are welcome to pick up their children at school.

So excited to host today's first "All-Pro Parent Breakfast" of the year! This breakfast was for our 5th graders and their families. Every grade level will have several opportunities throughout the year to enjoy breakfast, bonding time, and an inspirational message 💙💛 Special shout out to IMS PTO parents Kelley Deir and Jaime Grassian for setting up this amazing spread! 🎉

What a fantastic day at IMS! 💙💛 Celebrated our students and staff at this morning's I-Pride Assembly 🎉 Congratulations to our Students of the Month for September and our first group of I-Pride Shoutout recipients of the school year! 💙💛 And we might be getting a little ahead of ourselves, but we couldn't resist celebrating our amazing custodian, Mr. Stasek, with the whole school (national custodian appreciation day is next week, 10/2) 🎉 You go above and beyond every day, and we're so grateful to have you!

Rain won't stop our recess fun! Students were able to utilize our Blue Room for gaming and crafts for the first time this school year 💙💛

📢 Did You Know? 🏫✏️ Independence Middle School is offering a Bike Safety Course Principal Mr. Vanek recently collaborated with Officers Lt. Murphy and Patrolman Collise to develop a comprehensive bike safety course for all IMS students. 🗓️ Week of October 14 - Bike safety, local laws, regulations, and proactive measures to ensure student safety on the roads - Officer Collise will work with all grades 5-8 students, providing information for responsible biking habits. Today, we remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Our thoughts are with their families and the brave first responders. Let us come together as a community to reflect, remember, and renew our commitment to unity and compassion.

Our 8th graders have been busy creating meaningful relationships with their younger peers in 5th grade. Today the 8th grade WEB Leaders had lunch with their 5th grade WEB groups. The WEB Leaders were excited to hear about their group's first few weeks of school. Students discussed their favorite teachers and subjects and talked about any clubs they have joined. They were all smiles! 😁 Through fun activities and mentoring, WEB Leaders are helping to guide and support the 5th graders as they transition into middle school. This bond is fostering teamwork, kindness, and a sense of community across grade levels, making our school an even better place for everyone! 💙💛

August 26, 2024 Dear Independence Primary and Middle School Families, Due to forecasted extreme heat, the Primary and Middle Schools will be closed on Tuesday, August 27. Tomorrow's weather forecast calls for temperatures exceeding 90+ degrees throughout the day, with a real feel of 100+ degrees in classrooms at the primary and middle school buildings. Due to the forecasted extreme heat expected throughout the day on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the Primary and Middle Schools will be CLOSED on Tuesday. High School students are IN SESSION and expected to attend classes as normally scheduled for Tuesday. A decision on any extracurricular activities and/or practices scheduled for tomorrow will be communicated by Mr. Brett Diehl, Athletic Director, by mid-morning on Tuesday. Kelli Cogan Superintendent
