Independence High School will soon begin the annual process of helping sophomores explore their interest in attending the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for next school year.
In early December, all 10th graders will tour CVCC to learn more about the wide range of programs available. Because some programs are highly competitive, we are updating our selection process to ensure it is fair, thorough, and centered on student readiness and interest.
This year, we are adding two key components: a student essay and an interview. These additions will help us better understand each student’s why—their passion, motivation, and connection to the program they hope to pursue. This improvement also helps prevent a common issue seen in past years, where students selected a program they weren’t fully committed to and later dropped it—limiting opportunities for others who were deeply interested.
By strengthening this process, we are supporting students in making informed decisions and ensuring access to meaningful pathways for all. In addition, our eighth graders visit CVCC as well.
