The Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) has recognized Tom Dreiling, assistant superintendent of Independence Local Schools, as their Business Operations Manager of the Year. Dreiling received the prestigious award on April 17 at the organization's annual state conference in Columbus.
"Tom continues to find ways to innovate and collaborate with his fellow business managers. He is a passionate, dedicated individual in the business manager profession, and it's an honor to nominate him for this award," said Chad Welker, Director of Business Services for the Ohio Schools Council, who nominated Dreiling for the recognition.
At Independence Local Schools, Dreiling oversees the business and operations of the district, including the district's maintenance. In addition to these responsibilities, he is currently serving as the interim superintendent for the remainder of the school year.
"Tom Dreiling's leadership and expertise have been invaluable to our district," said President Anthony Avila, Independence Local Schools Board of Education. "His commitment to fiscal responsibility, strategic planning, and facilities management has been instrumental in ensuring the continued success of our schools. We are thrilled that his contributions have been recognized at the state level."
Dreiling joined the district in August 2017 from the North Olmsted City Schools, where he served as a middle school principal. He has an extensive background and a successful track record in facilities planning, instructional leadership, and district operations.
In addition to receiving the Business Operations Manager of the Year award, Dreiling was a featured speaker at two presentations during the OASBO conference. His sessions, "The ABCS of Legal Procurement and Contracting - Optimize Your Process to Save Your District Money, Time and Problems," and "Creating a Comprehensive Maintenance Plan - Are you Ready?" showcased his expertise and the innovative strategies he has implemented at Independence Local Schools.
"Tom Dreiling's dedication to the field of school business management is truly inspiring," added Avila. "His ability to navigate complex financial and operational challenges, while also championing the needs of our students and staff, is a testament to his exceptional leadership."
The honor also provides a $500 scholarship for a high school senior.
