Independence Local Schools, in partnership with the City of Independence, hosted the 3rd Annual IMS & IPS Cultural Fair on Thursday, March 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Independence Civic Center.
This year’s Cultural Fair was inspired by “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss and invited the community to celebrate global cultures, traditions, and learning through student-led presentations and interactive experiences.
As part of the event, second- and sixth-grade students from Independence Primary School (IPS) and Independence Middle School (IMS) were paired together to explore countries from around the world. In the months leading up to the event, students researched customs, geography, history, and traditions, culminating in creative trifold displays and project exhibits they proudly presented to attendees during the fair.
“The Cultural Fair was a meaningful opportunity for students to learn from one another while developing a deeper appreciation for the world beyond their classrooms,” said Superintendent Kelli Cogan. “It also brought families and the community together in a fun, engaging way.”
Adding to the celebration, several local restaurants were on site providing complimentary food samples, giving attendees the chance to enjoy flavors from around the world while supporting businesses that support Independence schools. Participating restaurants included Condado Tacos & Tequila, Bibibop Asian Grill, Gran Fiesta Mexican Grill & Cantina, Cozumel, The Declaration Tavern, Tita Flores – A Filipino Kitchen, Gentile’s Bakery, Catering & Deli, and Aladdin’s Eatery.
