land lab open house

Independence Local Schools welcomed families and community members to the Independence Outdoor Education Center & Land Lab on Sunday, October 18, for an afternoon of exploring nature, hiking trails and learning more about the district's outdoor education opportunities.

The open house, held from noon to 3 p.m. at 7733 Stone Road, gave visitors an opportunity to explore the nature classroom, walk the wooded trails and see firsthand the outdoor spaces used by Independence students throughout the school year.

Visitors toured the nature classroom, located inside the Independence Board of Education building, which features educational displays and resources that help students learn about the natural world. Guests also had the opportunity to explore the property's wooded trails, outdoor gathering pavilion and instructional areas.

The Land Lab serves as an extension of the traditional classroom, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that connect science, environmental education and the natural world. Through outdoor exploration and observation, students can apply classroom concepts in a setting that encourages curiosity and discovery.

The open house also provided an opportunity for community members who had never visited the property to become more familiar with this educational resource.

Independence Local Schools appreciates everyone who attended the open house and took time to explore the Land Lab, a unique learning environment that connects students, families and the community with nature.
