Independence Primary School families enjoyed a special start to the school day on September 17 as they participated in Walk Your Child to School Day, a regional event encouraging families to spend a little extra time together on the way to school.
Families walked together to IPS, with students and parents making their way to the Hillside entrance before the start of the school day. The event provided a simple opportunity for families to connect while enjoying a morning walk together.
The morning also included a community partnership with Bluerik Coffee. Families were invited to stop by before school for a drink or pastry, with 15% of proceeds benefiting the IPS PTO. Funds raised through the PTO help provide activities and experiences for IPS students, families and teachers.
September 17 also marked Constitution Day, giving students another reason to make the morning special. Many arrived at school dressed in red, white and blue or patriotic attire to recognize the day.
“Walk Your Child to School Day brought together family, school and community while giving our students a memorable start to their day,” said Principal Jodie Hughes.
