Independence High School senior Ben Cober has been named a Commended Student in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, recognizing him among the nation’s highest-performing students.
Approximately 50,000 students nationwide receive recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program each year based on their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of those students, approximately 34,000 are named Commended Students.
Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
“We are very proud of Ben for earning this national recognition,” said Independence High School Principal Matt Faska. “This achievement reflects his hard work, dedication and commitment to academic excellence throughout his high school career. Ben represents Independence High School well, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”
The National Merit Scholarship Program was established in 1955 to recognize academically talented students and encourage the pursuit of educational excellence.
