On May 21, fourth-grade students at Independence Primary School got a firsthand look at what lies ahead during Preview Day at Independence Middle School, giving them an exciting introduction to their future school community.
Throughout the morning, students explored the building on guided tours, learning how to navigate key spaces and get comfortable in a new environment. Along the way, they received important information about daily routines, expectations, and the opportunities that await them as fifth graders.
“We know the move to middle school can feel like a big change, so giving students the chance to see the building, meet staff, and experience a typical day makes a real difference,” said Principal Haley Mueller, Independence Middle School. “It helps turn uncertainty into excitement.”
One of the highlights of the day was enjoying lunch in the middle school cafeteria, giving students a true sense of what a typical day will feel like. The experience helped ease nerves and replace uncertainty with anticipation.
Staff and student leaders were on hand to answer questions and create a welcoming atmosphere, helping fourth graders feel confident and supported as they prepare for this important transition.
Preview Day is an important step in helping students build familiarity and excitement about middle school. “We are so proud of how much our students have grown during their time here at the primary school,” said Principal Jodie Hughes, Independence Primary School. “Preview Day is a wonderful opportunity for them to see just how ready they are for the next chapter.”
