Independence Middle School was filled with creativity, laughter, and community spirit on the evening of April 28 as students and their families gathered for a Sip & Paint event hosted by the IMS PTO.
Led by art teacher Michaela Bloam, participants were guided step-by-step through the process of creating spring-themed paintings. With easels set and brushes in hand, students and their VIP guests enjoyed an evening of artistic exploration that welcomed all skill levels and celebrated the joy of trying something new, even when it came with a few “happy little accidents.”
Adding to the fun was a build-your-own soda bar, where Principal Haley Mueller helped families create their own fun and flavorful drinks.
The free event, made possible through the generosity of the IMS PTO and its sponsors, brought together dozens of families for an experience that went beyond painting. It created space for connection, conversation, and shared memories.
“This was such a special night for our students and families,” said Principal Mueller. “Opportunities like this highlight the strength of our school community and the importance of creating meaningful experiences together.”
The overwhelming turnout and positive feedback have already sparked plans to bring the Sip & Paint event back in the future, continuing a growing tradition of family engagement at Independence Middle School.
From colorful canvases to smiles shared across the room, the evening was a reminder of what makes IMS a place where students and families truly feel connected.
