Dominic Buttari

Independence Local Schools has recommended Dominic Buttari as the next head coach of the Independence High School boys soccer program, pending approval by the Independence Board of Education at an upcoming meeting.

Buttari brings several years of coaching and teaching experience to the role, along with a strong commitment to student development both on and off the field. He currently serves as the head varsity soccer coach at Wickliffe High School, where he has led program planning, off-season training, and team development since 2022. Under his leadership, the team earned the Greater Cleveland Team Sportsmanship Award in 2025 — a reflection of his emphasis on character, teamwork, and respect.

In addition to his coaching background, Buttari is a middle school educator, teaching seventh-grade mathematics and working closely with students, families, and colleagues to support academic growth. His experience in education aligns with Independence Local Schools’ mission of developing well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.

“The athletic department is excited to welcome Coach Buttari into the Blue Devil family,” said Athletic Director Danny Zillich. “His leadership and coaching experience will be an asset to the boys soccer program.”

Previously, Buttari served as head varsity soccer coach at Trinity High School, where he helped rebuild a program that had not fielded a team the year prior. His coaching experience also includes time at St. Edward High School and Alexander High School, where he contributed to successful postseason runs as an assistant coach.

A graduate of Ohio University, Buttari holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education with concentrations in Social Studies and Mathematics and is CPR and First Aid certified.

After being approved by the Board of Education, Buttari will begin working with Independence student-athletes and families in preparation for the upcoming season.
