This week, Independence Middle School was filled with heart, teamwork, and the true spirit of service as 7th graders partnered with 4th graders from Independence Primary School to complete a special community project—creating cozy, handmade blankets for children’s hospitals.
Working side-by-side, students tied colorful fleece blankets, each one crafted with care and meant to bring warmth and comfort to children facing medical challenges. The collaboration between our older and younger Blue Devils created a meaningful experience, as students learned the value of compassion, connection, and giving back to others.
“This project is such a beautiful reminder of what happens when our school communities come together,” said Independence Middle School Principal Haley Mueller. “Our students poured so much love into every tie.”
Independence Primary School Principal Jodie Hughes shared her pride in the younger students’ involvement as well. “Seeing our fourth graders so eager to help others was inspiring. They understood that even a small act of kindness can make a big difference, and they worked with such joy and purpose.”
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the IMS PTO, IPS PTO, and all the generous families whose donations made this effort possible. Their support showcased the tremendous strength and kindness of our Independence school community.
Together, our students demonstrated what it truly means to serve with heart—and made a difference that will be felt far beyond our school walls.
