Independence Middle School is celebrating creativity in a big way with the launch of a new school-wide initiative: the Monthly Masterpiece Art Challenge. Designed to inspire self-expression and bring students together through art, the program invites all IMS students to create artwork based on a new theme each month.
September’s theme was apples. For October, students embraced the theme “Trick or Treat,” filling the bulletin board with colorful, spooky, and imaginative drawings that showcased their personalities and artistic styles. From pumpkins and ghosts to clever Halloween scenes, the display quickly became a favorite stop in the hallway.
In November, students are embracing the theme: “Cartoon Characters!” Students are encouraged to draw, sketch, or design their favorite characters—or invent their own. The December theme will be winter wonderland. The goal is simple: have fun, be creative, and express yourself.
Once completed, students bring their artwork to Art Teacher Michaela Bloam, who adds each masterpiece to the school’s growing art gallery. As an added bonus, every participant receives a sticker for contributing to the challenge.
The Monthly Masterpiece initiative not only brightens the hallways but also fosters a sense of community, confidence, and creativity among IMS students. With fresh themes on the way, Independence Middle School is excited to see what artistic magic unfolds each month.
