Independence Primary School Students Are Camping Out with a Good Book This Week

Lights, sleeping bags, s'mores - it's time to camp out with a good book at Independence Primary School! February 26th marks the kickoff of the school’s 2024 Right-to-Read Week with the theme "Camp Out With a Good Book".

From February 26th through March 1st, students are being challenged to curl up in their favorite reading spot and read as many books as possible. Parents, please help your child keep track of their reading time on the verification slips sent home. PreK-1st graders will record the number of books, while 2nd-4th graders will log reading time in 20 minute increments. Assigned homework does not count, only pleasure reading!

Students should place their reading slips in the grade-level collection box in the lobby each morning when they arrive at school. Every student who turns in a slip will have their name displayed on our reading bulletin board! Daily prize drawings will be held for participants, so the more they read, the greater chance they have of winning.

To further highlight the joy of reading, Celebrity Guest Readers will visit classrooms all week long to share favorite stories. And each day has a fun dress-up theme like Pajama Day and Hat Day to really get into the camping spirit!

Let's make this the most adventurous Right-to-Read Week ever at IPS! Grab a flashlight and cozy blanket, and let your imagination go wild!
