Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Student Spotlight

Nicholas “Nick” Lucas is a senior at Independence High School and is enrolled in CVCC’s Job Training program headed by Mrs. McNamara. Nick was initially enrolled in CVCC’s Machine Technology program and then was connected with Mrs. McNamara who offered him other opportunities that were of great interest to him. Nick now works over 30 hours a week at a local Planet Fitness. He delivers quality customer service and is a reliable and committed employee. While working, Nick has also taken the time to really think about his future career options.

Nick’s manager notes, “[Nick is a] great communicator and stays positive. [He has a] good attitude and [is] willing to help out.” Nick has enjoyed meeting great people at his job; the physical element of the position can be tough, but is worth it! Overall, Nick appreciates the quality people at CVCC and the opportunities it provides students who are looking to start a career.

Additionally, Nick plays golf at Independence High School. In his free time, he enjoys being with friends.

After high school, Nick plans on going into the pipe fitter’s union and learning to weld. He plans on joining his family’s business and doing an apprenticeship program. He hopes one day his grandfather’s company will be passed down to him.
