Student Life

There are many opportunities for students at Independence Primary School to participate in activities outside of their academic schoolwork. Some of these activities include Art Club, Intramurals (Football & Basketball), IPS Choir, IPS Drama Club, Kiwanis K-Kids, Running Club, Snapology, Student Council, and Wrestling Club.

Art Club (4th Grade)

Fourth-grade students will have the opportunity to join Art Club. The students will explore different art techniques and express themselves by creating new and exciting projects! The fee is $50.00 per student.

Intramurals (4th Grade)

Fourth-grade students will have the opportunity to join intramurals. The fourth-grade boys will participate in intramural football during the fall and the fourth-grade girls will participate in intramural basketball during the winter. The fee is $20.00 per student.

Please have your child bring old clothes for intramural football. They will need to dress appropriately for the weather. We will be outside most of the time.
Proper Equipment includes tennis shoes, shorts or sweats (depending on the weather), a t-shirt or sweatshirt (depending on the weather), and a water bottle. 

IPS Choir (Grades 3-4)

IPS Choir is open to all students in grades 3 and 4. There is no audition required. Choir meets September through May, once a week after school from 3:15-4:00 p.m. in the music room and performs two concerts during the school year with the opportunity for other community related performances and/or sporting event performances. 

IPS Drama Club (2nd-4th Grades)

IPS Drama Club is open to students in grades 2-4. Students have the opportunity to work with a professional director and choreographer that the IPS PTO brings in specifically for this club. It has been a great success for the school and a great opportunity for our young children to explore the dramatic arts. The fee is $50.00 per student.

K-Kids (3rd Grade)

In partnership with the Independence Kiwanis Club, we offer a K-Kids Program. The purpose of K-Kids is to: provide opportunities for working together in service to the school and Independence community; develop leadership potential; foster the development of strong moral character; and encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation.

Running Club (Grades 2-4)

Running Club is open to students in grades 2-4. In this extracurricular activity, they will participate in sessions of outdoor training, using the "Kids Run The Nation" curriculum. Students will learn the fundamentals of running, enjoy team-building exercises, and most of all...have fun!

Student Council (4th Grade)

The club will provide our fourth graders opportunities to promote citizenship and fundraising activities for our school and community. This club oversees a variety of programs that develop leadership and school spirit among the student body.

Wrestling Club (Grades K-2) and (Grades 3-4)

Wrestling Club is open to boys in (grades K-2) and (grades 3-4). These clubs are an introduction to wrestling. A variety of activities along with calisthenics and conditioning will be taught. The cost is TBD.

Snapology (Grades K-2) and (Grades 3-4)

During Snapology classes, children engage in interactive, hands-on learning and building with LEGO bricks. We introduce engineering concepts and teach children about simple machines and the design process.
