City Help Find Space for Growing Wrestling Program

Independence Local Schools has a high school wrestling program that consists of almost 30 students. However, the IHS building was built without a wrestling room. Assistant Superintendent Tom Dreiling spoke on this topic at the board meeting on November 16. “A large team is an awesome problem to have, but not a problem you want when you don’t have a wrestling room,” said Dreiling. Dreiling said Tom Walchanowicz, Recreation Director for the City of Independence, learned about this issue and allowed the team to use space in the Elmwood recreation center. Tom stepped up and said we have to support this and so we now have a second court in the Field House during wrestling season. He made it happen. He said if we have a successful program, then it is our job to help support that program.  “I’m appreciative of his willingness to help out our schools whenever he can,” said Dreiling.
