Independence Middle and High School Music Department conducted a shoe drive this past fall. More than $1,700 was raised based on the total weight of the 4,447 pairs of shoes collected. Funds2Orgs purchased all of the donated footwear. Half of the funds raised are going to students' individual trip accounts for future travel, including the Florida trip currently planned for 2022.
The truck was loaded on November 1. More than 60 members of the music department helped with the collecting of shoes at various drop-off locations, wrapping and bagging, and loading the truck.
All donated shoes will now be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families.
“Thank you for your support! The school district families, staff, local businesses, churches, and the community at large really showed up for this fundraiser,” said Gretchen Obrovac, Vocal Ensemble Director.
