Independence Middle School Building Profile

Our goal at Independence Middle School is to engage our students in opportunities that further cultivate their interests so they can pursue these areas to best prepare them for their futures. I.M.S. is home to a comprehensive educational environment, blending rigor with excitement, so that students can grow as learners and members of the community. A cross-section of these opportunities are outlined below. Take a look at everything in store for our Independence students in grades 5 through 8 in our school family!

High School Prep & Beyond

At Independence Middle School, we strive to focus on the development of the whole child, with emphasis on character development, academic excellence and citizenship. We are pleased to offer a wide assortment of clubs, activities and enrichment opportunities for our students to be active and engaged while they grow and develop.  We encourage our families to be as involved as possible in their student’s middle school years. By working together with families, the possibilities for our students are endless. Our courses help peak the interest of our students as they begin to think about life after high school graduation, whether it be college, the military or work.

S.T.E.A.M. Strong

Students are exposed to advanced learning in mathematics and science, while also having unique opportunities to apply classroom lessons to real-life job scenarios. Career-preparedness is stimulated in a variety of fields as middle school students can take classes in pre-engineering, robotics innovation, and even hydroponics, where students grow and harvest vegetables and serve them in our lunchrooms. In our Fundamentals of Design class, students design their own bedrooms, homes, and properties using AUTOCAD technology and software. In the heart of the medical industry in Northeast Ohio, our students are putting their S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) skills to work as IMS has partnered with the Cleveland Clinic to permit our very own future physicians, nurses, and pre-med students to observe general rounds and patient interaction virtually…an invaluable experience.

In that time, dozens of student-athletes have gone onto successful collegiate careers at Division I, Division II, NAIA, and Division III. We believe that success will continue with further alignment with the athletics programs at I.M.S.

First Class Facilities

Independence Middle School takes great pride in its physical facilities and amenities to create a welcoming environment and one which provides educational opportunities. Our project-based learning areas are equipped with hands-on resources for students to learn in creative ways. The common area, located in the seventh-grade wing, is renovated with fresh paint, new carpeting, flexible seating and interactive display screens. The IMS weight room has brand new fitness equipment, weights, dumbbells, machines and more. The Gamer area provides a stress-free environment for students as well.
