Request a Device during Remote Learning

We understand that the pivot to remote learning may mean that your child requires a device. While many of you have filled out the form linked below; I wanted to resend this email and link for those families that might have missed the original email. We have managed to repair and rebuild close to 70 devices in the past two days. Many of these devices have already been picked up. When a device is ready and assigned, you will receive an email with directions to pick up the device.  We do not have enough devices to cover current needs. Once we receive our delivery date for our 560 new chromebooks, I will share that information.

Currently, we are waiting on a shipment of device chargers to arrive Tuesday. Due to damaged chargers and chargers not being returned in the summer; we now have devices with no way of charging. We were prepared for this possible circumstance and chargers were ordered in September and are due to arrive on Tuesday.

Have a Broken Device During Remote Learning?

Device Break/Fix Needs
If you are having issues with a device and are in need of repair, below is the information explaining that procedure. We are attempting to fix devices as quickly as possible and cannot give out loaner devices while we work on your device.

Drop Off of Broken devices
  • Times
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from (8am-12pm)
  • Location
  • North Lot entrance (Media Center doors) of Independence High School will be device drop off and pick up.
  • This is the entrance near the practice soccer fields. There will be a cone on the sidewalk to signify you are in the right place.
  • Procedure
  • Parents/students will remain in their vehicle. Cone will be placed along the sidewalk to designate drop off location.
  • A member of the technology department will come to your vehicle to collect your device and information.
  • We will need to know
  • What is wrong with the device
  • Your student’s name (first/last), grade,
  • Phone number to text you when repairs are complete.
  • If you are able to write this information on a PostIT note or note card taped to the device it will expedite the process.
  • DO NOT bring Carry cases, device bags, or device charger (UNLESS you think the charger might be broken).
  • At this time, due to shortages in technology supplies across the nation, we will not be able to give a loaner device when you drop off a device. Our goal is to complete repairs within a short window and return the device quickly.
  • Pick Up
  • Pickup will be in the same location as drop off.
  • You will receive a text message when your device is ready.
