At Independence Local Schools, we have a district nurse who oversees all three buildings. Independence Primary School has a full-time nurse and Independence Middle and High School have health aides who support the health needs of our students and school community.
First Aid: We provide basic first aid to injured/ill students and staff daily.
Control of communicable disease: In addition to ensuring that every student meets Ohio’s immunization standards, we assess ill students and send home those who are potentially contagious to others.
Support of students with health needs: Chronic and acute health care needs are met on a daily basis in order to maximize students’ educational time and experience. We partner with parents and professional healthcare providers to develop health care plans for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, and severe food/insect allergies.
Screenings: Vision and hearing are important to learning. By completing the mandated Ohio screenings for hearing and vision, we identify those students who need further professional care.
Education: We take every opportunity to promote healthy choices.
