New Middle School Principal Announced
The Independence Board of Education voted unanimously April 21 to hire Kevin Jakub as principal of Independence Middle School.
The Brunswick resident will begin in the position Aug. 1. He replaces Ben Hegedish, who will take over the superintendent position from Steve Marlow.
"We are excited to welcome Mr. Jakub to Independence,” said Hegedish. “Throughout the time we had in getting to know him, Mr. Jakub has consistently demonstrated that his first priority is the students he serves. His energy and experiences bring a nice blend of leadership that will help our district focus on what we do best - connect with our students and families while providing an outstanding education."
Jakub comes to the district from Bay Village City Schools, where he is has served as assistant principal of Bay Middle School since 2009. He previously worked for Parma City Schools as a teacher, tutor, baseball coach and administrative intern.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Ohio University, and a Masters in Supervision and Leadership from Bowling Green State University. Jakub has also completed coursework to obtain an Ohio Superintendent License.
“This is an exciting time for Independence Local Schools with Mr. Jakub as the new middle school principal and Mr. Hegedish as our new superintendent,” said Board President Jerry Narduzzi. “Our district excels in academics, arts, athletics, and community service and these two individuals, along with our already outstanding administrative team, will allow us to reach new heights in education.”
