May 17, 2013 . . . An Independence High School student was honored at the Educational Service Center (ESC) of Cuyahoga County’s 35th annual “Recognizing Excellence in Education for Students with Disabilities” Spring Program on May 17. The program was held at the Dr. Harry E. Eastridge Professional Development Center in Valley View.
The recognition brunch is an opportunity for educators, teachers, students, and community members to celebrate the great things that are happening in public education today. Students, peers and educators received awards.
The Outstanding Student Achievement Award acknowledges achievements of school-age children and youth with disabilities in Cuyahoga County. Shawn Widzinski, a student at Independence High School, received this recognition.
“Many famous figures have suffered from disabilities but overcame them,” said Dr. Bob Mengerink, superintendent of the Educational Service Center (ESC) of Cuyahoga County. “You have to believe in yourself, while having determination and dedication.”
