Pupil Services/Special Education
Independence Local Schools provides a continuum of services for students in Preschool through High School.
The role of the Office of Pupil Services is to support parents, teachers, and principals in the location, identification, and provision of educational services for students with exceptional learning needs, within Independence Schools.
Our goal is to provide a safe, healthy and challenging, educational environment, and to ensure all students have access the academic and social opportunities.

The Office of Pupil Services coordinates support services throughout the district, including:
  • Special Education Service
  • Section 504 Compliance
  • Home Schooling
  • District Health Services
  • Compliance with state and federal laws
  • Integrated Preschool which services children with special needs and typical peers
  • Related Services: Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Hearing and Vision, Assistive Technology

In collaboration with the school principals and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Office of Pupil Services is involved with:

  • Response to Intervention English Language Learners (ELL)
  • Guidance Counseling Services
  • Gifted Identification and Programming
